Easy Living in a Ranch Style Home in WV

When you are thinking about simplifying your living situation, choosing a ranch style home can be a great step in the right direction. There are so many benefits to one-level living, regardless of your age or income. However, finding available ranch style homes in West Virginia can be difficult because of their popularity.

Read on to find out more about ranch style homes, why they are so popular, and how you can get the perfect ranch home to fit your lifestyle!

What is a Ranch Style Home?

Ranch homes are usually one story houses built with simple, classic designs. They are usually a modified rectangle or "L" shape, and have distinct exterior profiles that create excellent curb appeal. Because of the relatively simple design, ranches are generally inexpensive to build, and can range from 800 square feet or less to well over 2,000 square feet.

Homeowners often choose the ranch design because they want all of their living space to be on a single floor. Maybe they have small children or disabled or elderly relatives who struggle with stairs, or maybe they just like the convenience of not having to travel up and down stairs each day to get from room to room. No matter the reason, the lack of stairs is usually the biggest selling point for this type of home.

Ranch home designs can vary widely; you can customize a ranch just like any other home style. Garages, cathedral ceilings, and open floor plans are all well within the scope of a ranch design.

Why Are They So Hard to Find?

In North Central West Virginia, ranch style homes are difficult to find for several reasons. For one, the mountainous and sloping terrain is usually not a favorable location to build a single-story house. This is why you will often see "raised ranch" homes, which is essentially a ranch style home placed on top of a full basement. This solves the sloping terrain issue, while adding storage or more living space to the home. You can also turn the basement into an integrated garage!

Another reason ranch homes are tough to find in the area is simply because they are so popular. Ranches sell more quickly in the Morgantown, Fairmont, and Clarksburg real estate markets than other home styles because of the convenience factor.

So if you're looking for a home that will be easy to sell later on, the ranch style is for you!
